The aircraft carrier ITS Cavour, Italian Navy’s flagship and the frigate ITS Alpino, will arrive in Darwin, Australia, on July 9th and stay until August 5th to participate in “Pitch Black 2024” air exercise, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). This large-scale exercise will include 20 other nations, including United States, United Kingdom, France and countries from the Indo-Pacific region.

USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) entering Pearl Harbour in preparation for Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018. Twenty-five nations, more than 45 ships and submarines, about 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.

U.S. Navy Task Group ALFA: Formation portrait of the Atlantic Fleet anti-submarine group’s ships and aircraft, taken during exercises in 1959 with Secretary of the Navy William B. Franke embarked. The ships include the group flagship, the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge (CVS-45) in center, two submarines, and seven destroyers. Identifiable among the latter are USS Eaton (DDE-510) at left front, USS Beale (DDE-471) following Eaton, USS Waller (DDE-466) in the center foreground, and USS Conway (DDE-507) at right front.
