On this day in 1940, Operation Fish saw 5 Royal Navy ships and some merchant ships including HMS ENTERPRISE, EMERALD, BONAVENTURE, RESOLUTION & REVENGE transfer the bulk of UK gold and securities wealth to Canada for safe keeping in several vaults, one was Royal Sun Life Montreal.

On this day in 1961 the first Leander Class Frigate HMS LEANDER was launched at Harland and Wolff plc, Belfast. The class of 26 were a huge success and would serve the Royal Navy until the 1990s. The last British Leander was still in service with the Indian Navy until 2012.
