July 29th 1982: HMS Hecla returned to Devonport to a rapturous welcome from the families of her crew and those of the wounded men on board. Throughout the war, she served as a floating ambulance taking casualties from both sides to SS Uganda, and made three runs to Montevideo.

Britain’s flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth will return home to Portsmouth tomorrow, passing Round Tower approx 2000. But first will carry out a sail past the Isle of Wight, exchanging gun salutes with the Royal Yacht Squadron marking Cowes week regatta in the Solent. following four months of repairs in Scotland and a short intensive spell at sea to test her systems.

The Ex Sandown-class warships, HMS Grimsby, now UNS Cherkasy, and HMS Shoreham now UNS Chernihiv left Portsmouth this morning.
