My first ship in 1959, HMS Bermuda (C52), was spotted at a ship-breaking yard in Briton Ferry, Wales, around August 1965. The vessel belonged to the Fiji class, which was built during World War Il and entered service in 1942. Throughout her operational life, HMS Bermuda took part in various naval operations in support of the Royal Navy’s interests. After many years of service, HMS Bermuda reached the final stage of her career. Her presence at Briton Ferry in 1965 marked the beginning of her dismantling—a process that reflected the broader transformation of the Royal Navy’s fleet during the post-war period. Marine Nationale has rolled out the French Navy’s fifth Suffren-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, SNA Rubis, from the construction hall at its Cherbourg facility on Oct. 16.The submarine is being transferred to the DME (Dispositif de Mise à l’Eau) launching facility in the Cachin basin in preparation for its launch. The latest milestone marked a key step before the submarine’s launch, dockside trials, sea trials, and subsequent delivery to the Navy. Under the Barracuda programme, the French Navy is procuring six Suffren-class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) to replace its Rubis-class SSNs. The programme is led by the French defence procurement agency (DGA), in partnership with the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA) for nuclear boilers

DefenceEye_news reports RN has not run a Submarine Command Course (Perisher) since December 2024, but 3 officers have successfully qualified for command through allied courses, including programmes delivered by 🇳🇴Norway and 🇦🇺Australia.RN Submarine availability may improve shortly with HMS Audacious returning to the fleet and Agamemnon working up- next UK Perisher Course is due to commence next month, with a further candidate scheduled to undertake the Norwegian course in January.
