My first ship in 1959, HMS Bermuda (C52), was spotted at a ship-breaking yard in Briton Ferry, Wales, around August 1965. The vessel belonged to the Fiji class, which was built during World War Il and entered service in 1942. Throughout her operational life, HMS Bermuda took part in various naval operations in support of the Royal Navy’s interests. After many years of service, HMS Bermuda reached the final stage of her career. Her presence at Briton Ferry in 1965 marked the beginning of her dismantling—a process that reflected the broader transformation of the Royal Navy’s fleet during the post-war period. The ship leaves behind a historical legacy as one of the British light cruisers that served during the era of the Second World War.
