Aircraft repair ship and light aircraft carrier HMS Unicorn (I72). Built in the late 1930s and completed during World War II (1943), she was a unique hybrid vessel—serving as both a light aircraft carrier and a dedicated aircraft maintenance and repair ship. She supported operations such as the Salerno landings in Italy (1943), joined the British Pacific Fleet in 1945, and later saw action during the Korean War, where she earned the distinction of being the only aircraft carrier to perform shore bombardment with her own guns. Placed back into reserve after the war, she was listed for disposal in 1958, sold to Arnott Young Shipbreakers in June 1959, and towed to Dalmuir, on the Clyde, to be broken up.
