Royal Navy warship HMS Richmond kept a close watch on a Chinese Navy task group as it passed the UK twice in three weeks.
On this day in 1976, the Oil Rig Patrol Ship and ex Fleet Tug, HMS Reward sank after a collision with the German Merchantman, Plainsman. There were no injuries or fatalities and she was recovered to be scrapped. HMS Reward began her life in 1944 as a Fleet Tug.
