In 1860, HMS Warrior, the first UK ironclad, was launched on the Thames. By 1871, she had become obsolete and became a tender at HMS Vernon and then a fuelling hulk at Pembroke Dock before restoration in Hartlepool and return to HMNB Portsmouth. In 1987, she was opened to the public.
