Swedish seaplane cruiser HSwMS Gotland during the 1930s. Launched in 1933, the Gotland was a unique hybrid vessel designed to function as both a light cruiser and an aircraft carrier. It featured a flight deck equipped with a catapult for launching reconnaissance aircraft and a large crane at the stern for hoisting them back on board. The ship originally carried a squadron of six Hawker Osprey seaplanes. In May 1941, an Osprey from the Gotland famously sighted the German battleship Bismarck during a gunnery exercise.

On Feb. 13, at the direction of SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Three narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed.
