On this day 50 years ago, the Audacious Class Carrier, HMS Eagle, was towed from HMNB Portsmouth to HMNB Devonport where she remained for 6 years to be cannibalised for spares to keep her sister, HMS Ark Royal, running.
Ex-HMS Pembroke was formally handed over to the Romanian Navy and re-named ROS Capitan Constantin Dumitrescu at a ceremony in Rosyth yesterday. Attending the ceremony were the Romanian Chief of the Navy, VAdml Mihai Panait, RN COMOPS, Maj Gen Rich Cantrill and representatives from Babcock. (ex-HMS Blyth, renamed ROS Sublocotenent Ion Ghiculescu and also transferred to Romania in September 2023).
