On 6th January, in 1945, USS Mississippi (BB-41) was hit by a kamikaze during the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf. While en route to Pearl Harbor for repairs, the skipper developed a plan to upgrade the guns and add more A.A. weapons to all available deck space. The plan was so practical that the Navy was able to quickly implement it.
