After the sinking of the Type 42 destroyer (Falklands), HMS Sheffield, a new strategy was devised to compensate for the loss. The remaining Type 42s were paired with the two Type 22s and deployed at a distance from the main task force, along potential attack routes of Argentine aircraft.
