Telegraph suggests that if Type 26 frigates are to be built for Norway by BAES Maritime on the Clyde, RN would have to divert ships 3 & Ship 4 (HMS Belfast & Birmingham) to meet the Norwegian schedule. While potentially a huge export win and Norway having the best possible ASW kit is in UK’s strategic interest, RN desperately needs new frigates.

On this day 20 years ago HMS Tireless surfaced with the U.S. Navy Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Hampton for ICEX 04, a joint operational exercise beneath the polar ice cap. Both Tireless and Hampton crews met on the ice, including scientists travelling aboard both submarines to collect data and perform experiments. The Ice Exercise demonstrates the U.S. and British Submarine Force’s ability to freely navigate in all international waters, including the Arctic.
