In 1988, an Iranian M-08 mine made a 25-foot (8 m) hole in the hull of the frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts, forcing the ship to seek temporary repairs in a dry dock in Dubai, UAE.

On this day in 2013 the sixth, and final Type 45 Destroyer, HMS Duncan was commissioned in HMNB Portsmouth. A relative nozzer in British Warship terms, she is currently the last escort commissioned for the RN until HMS Venturer or HMS Glasgow are commissioned.

Replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn ran aground off the Coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea and suffered serious damage. Now being towed to Dubai. She is currently the only oiler available to support the USN in the Middle East.
