Houthis unsuccessfully attacked USS Stockdale and USS Spruance with drones and missiles as the ships transited south through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Monday. In response, aircraft from USS Abraham Lincoln launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen.

The U.S. Navy has confirmed that a wreck discovered last year by the Royal Australian Navy is that of USS Edsall (DD 219). Lost in the Indian Ocean in 1942, the exact fate of the Edsall was unknown until a decade later when captured Japanese film revealed that the destroyer had been sunk after coming under attack by two cruisers, two battleships, and 26 dive bombers from three carriers. A post-war investigation determined that at least six of Edsall’s crewmen were captured and executed.

U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Resolute offloaded approximately 9,690 pounds of cocaine and 5,490 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $115 million, in their homeport of St. Petersburg October 23. In addition to the contraband, Resolute’s crew previously transferred five suspected smugglers ashore to face federal prosecution by the U.S. Department of Justice.
