The last of the Royal Navy’s Trafalgar submarines returns home for decommissioning. With her special decommissioning pennant flying, the last of the Royal Navy’s Trafalgar-class attack submarines, HMS Triumph, has arrived home in Plymouth. The boat served for close to 34 years on operations around the globe. Her pressure hull and reactor fuel is life-expired and she will never put to sea again. After storage for a couple of decades she will be recycled in Devonport.

In the 1930’s, US Cost Guard built two cutters to battle rum runners, Calypso and Perseus. After their service life they were used for sightseeing tours, and during 9/11 they transported 5000 + people to safety.

Government confirm new assault ships due for 2033. The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the Multi-Role Support Ship (MRSS) programme, intended to replace the Royal Navy’s current amphibious fleet, is progressing through its concept phase, with the first vessel expected to enter service by 2033.

The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) arrived Dec. 9 in its new homeport of San Diego from Sasebo, Japan. This homeport shift will be a permanent change of station for the crew and family members. This shift complies with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), requiring that U.S. Navy ships not be permanently forward deployed to Japan for more than 10 years.

HMS Challenger 1984-1990. Now owned by the De Beers mining Group, the MV Ya Toivo has been significantly re-built including crudely increasing her beam. Only the bridge is vaguely recognisable from her days as HMS Challenger. Ya Toivo features regularly on UglyShips.com.

In 1954, Admiral, Earl Mountbatten of Burma relinquished command of Allied Forces in the Mediterranean. As a sign of respect, British, American, Greek, French, Italian and Turkish admirals from the NATO Headquarters at Malta manned oars and rowed him out to HMS Surprise.
