Berthed in the Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL, before a series of early aviation tests, USN armoured cruiser North Carolina had a catapult prototype installed on her afterdeck. Current status: Scrapped in 1930-32, lifespan of 27 years. September 1915.

On this day in 1945, the German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin was scuttled to avoid capture by the advancing Soviets. In violation of terms set by the Allied Tripartite Commission, the Soviets secretly refloated and salvaged the carrier. Soviet records state that Graf Zeppelin was sunk during weapons tests in 1947.

HMS Dragon has finally sailed from Portsmouth today after several abortive attempts to leave the wall since Thursday. She is expected to participate in large-scale air defence exercise FormidableShield2025, which begins on 5th May.
