Bottsand-class oil recovery ship, a unique twin-hulled vessel operated by the German Navy. The ship’s bow can open up to 65 degrees, creating a V-shaped opening to collect oil-polluted seawater. The contaminated water is pumped into a 790 cubic meter tank, where the oil is separated. Each ship can clean up to 140 cubic meters of ocean surface per hour. Although part of the German Navy’s fleet, these ships are crewed by civilians.
