In 1959, the heavy cruiser USS Albany (CA-123) began its conversion to a guided missile cruiser (CG-10) at the Boston Naval Shipyard. The extensive four-year process involved stripping the ship down to its hull, removing its entire superstructure, and fitting a new one with an aluminium bridge to accommodate missile systems
