On this day in 1982, the Sea Wolf surface-to-air missile was used in combat for the first time. The missile was designed in 1967 and entered service in 1979. When the Royal Navy went to war with Argentina over the Falklands, the only deployable vessels equipped with this weapon were the Type 22 frigates HMS Brilliant, HMS Broadsword, and the Batch 3A Leander-class frigate HMS Andromeda.
