HMS Somerset, armed with new Naval Strike Missiles, has arrived at Faslane in Scotland. As the designated Towed Array Patrol Ship (TAPS) vessel, HMS Somerset will be tasked with conducting vital anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations, safeguarding the waters surrounding Faslane, home to the UK’s nuclear deterrent. In addition to her TAPS duties, HMS Somerset is also showcasing the Royal Navy’s latest anti-ship and land-attack capability, having been the first British warship to receive the Naval Strike Missile (NSM)—the replacement for the ageing Harpoon missile system.
