HMS Swiftsure (decommissioned 1992) now in Number 2 dry dock at Rosyth to begin the second phase of her dismantling process (removal of intermediate-level waste) to be completed in 2026. She will be the first ex-RN nuclear submarine to be disposed of (and first in the world to be dismantled rather than whole reactor compartment removed and buried)

AUKUS partnership between BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build nuclear submarines formally announced today. RAN boats will be built in South Australia but with UK technical assistance and supply chain input including nuclear reactors made by Rolls Royce in Derby, and components made by Forgemasters HQ. 7,000 jobs created in the UK as a result of this deal.
