The crew of HMS Dragon took time during operations in the Arabian Sea to pay a traditional flight deck tribute to all those involved in D-Day and Operation Neptune.

OnThisDay 1981 the Aircraft Carrier HMS ARK ROYAL was launched on the Tyne by HM The Queen Mother 2 years after the decommissioning of her predecessor. She was the fifth ship to bear the name and served until 2011.

USS Utah (SSN-801) is the U.S. Navy’s newest Virginia-class, nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine, currently preparing for official commissioning. It achieved a major milestone in mid-May when it floated off its pontoon and touched water for the first time at the General Dynamics Electric Boat shipyard.

Missile hatch of the Soviet Yankee-class submarine K-219 after the detonation of one of its R-27U missiles while submerged. The detonation and subsequent fire caused the sinking of the submarine on October 3, 1986, about 1000 km east of the Bermudas. K-219 was a Project 667A Navaga-class ballistic missile submarine (NATO reporting name Yankee I) of the Soviet Navy. It carried 16 R-27U liquid-fuel missiles.

As part of BIW’s new sea trials program, the future USS Patrick Gallagher (DDG 127) made a scheduled stop in Portland, allowing some members of the crew who have completed their tasks to leave the ship, with others joining for the remainder of trials. DDG 127 is the last Flight IIa Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. BIW’s other ships under construction are Flight III
