On this day in 1941, USS Ward fired the first American shots of the war in the Pacific when the destroyer sank a midget sub trying to enter Pearl Harbour. The 14th Naval District HQ believed the action was a false report, not recognising that the sub was part of an incoming Japanese attack.

HMS Lancaster (F229), a Type 23 Duke-class frigate of the Royal Navy, arriving in Bahrain, for decommissioning, which leaves only 7 of these frigates. This is the first time a decommissioning has taken place overseas since HMS Peacock, HMS Plover & HMS Starling decommissioned together in Hong Kong before hand over to Philippine Navy, Aug 1997.
