On this day in 1918, the Royal Navy Grand Fleet deployed in full fighting array for the last time in wartime to counter a German sortie in the North Sea. Admiral Beatty sailed with 193 ships including 31 battleships, 4 battle cruisers, 24 light cruisers & 85 destroyers.

Type 23 frigates in Devonport this week. (1) HMS Westminster – still in commission but will probably be scrapped. (2) HMS Kent about to begin refit outboard of HMS Argyll – completing refit? future uncertain. (3) HMS Sutherland LIFEX refit nearing completion, will rejoin the fleet later this year.

USS James E. Williams (DDG-95) enters dry dock as part of “DDG Mod 2.0”. The 2 step process includes a complete mid-life overhaul and new systems like SLQ-32(V)7 first, then the new SPY-6(V)4 radar later. April 18(?), 2024. USS Chung Hoon also recently docked for this work.
