HMS Cutlass made her longest voyage yet: a 400-mile round-trip from her home in Gibraltar to train with the Portuguese Navy in the Algarve. It’s the first time in 6 years that the RN Gib Sqn has worked with Marinha PT.

Nautilus International, the RFA officers union have announced they will join their RMT Union colleagues and take industrial action over pay. Nautilus members will strike on Saturday 1st June (RMT on strike this Sunday 19th May).

USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), the replenishment oiler USS KALAMAZOO (AOR 6), the guided missile destroyer USS RICHARD D. BYRD (DDG 23) and the guided missile cruiser USS JOSEPHUS DANIELS (CG 27) underway. The ships are part of Carrier Group Eight USN.

On this day in 1956 Destroyer HMS DIANA steamed through the nuclear fallout created by UK atomic tests off the Monte Bello islands. She then repeated the task the following month. The Chiefs of Staff wanted to know how the Ship and men would fair. Many died early or suffered.

On this day 10 years ago in 2014, the 3rd Astute Class submarine HMS ARTFUL was launched at BAES Maritime in Barrow. Of the class, 2 are still in build, (Agamemnon and Agincourt) and are due to enter service by the end of the decade.
