On this day in 1983, the Royal Navy ceased Gunnery Training at the Fraser Range in Eastney, Portsmouth. Training was transferred to HMS Cambridge near Plymouth, which has also since closed leaving no RN live gunnery training establishments. Fraser is marked for private development.

What was the first sea outing of the SNA Tourville marked the beginning of its sea trials in the Atlantic until its delivery to the French Navy at the end of 2024. The Tourville is the 3rd in the series of 6 Suffren class submarines of the Barracuda program.

The Royal Navy has kept a constant watch on a Russian naval group throughout the Christmas holidays as it sailed past the British Isles.Thank you to the crew of HMS Somerset for sacrificing their holiday to keep the UK safe and secure. The frigate was activated on Christmas Day to monitor a Russian task group from the North Sea through the Channel.
