On this day 70 years ago, HMS Protector, an RN Netlayer since 1936, began her new service as the Falklands and Antarctic patrol & survey ship. She was scrapped in 1970, but today her namesake, HMS Protector, still surveys the Antarctic as the RN’s only Ice Patrol Ship.

SS Hestmanden. Ships and small boats that participated in the WWII Shetland Bus missions (supporting Norwegian Resistance) arrived in Lerwick with HNoMS Storm for VEDay80 commemorations. Memorial service held at Lunna Kirk and wreaths laid by the Norwegian ambassador.
