The UK has fitted its first Mk 45 Mod 4A weapon system onto the first-in-class Type 26 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigate HMS Glasgow, ending a 45-year-long wait to return to the naval big gun scene after the retirement of the Tiger-class cruisers in the late 1970s.

On this day 30 years ago in 1994, HMS Brazen grounded off Chile for 4 days. Commanding Officer, Navigator and Officer of the Watch all Court Martialled. CO & NO Guilty, OOW guilty plea not accepted. HMS Brazen was sold to Brazil in 1996, serving until 2015 when she was sunk as a target.

Vanguard class submarine being cold-moved from Faslane to Coulport this afternoon. During a cold-move, tugs provide the movement – but the diesel generators are run (with cooling water injected into the exhaust) to provide power to the boat’s systems.
