French ship Dixmude (L9015), an amphibious assault ship of the Mistral class, and Aquitaine class frigate FS Bretagne (D655), leaving Plymouth this morning, both participants in Exercise Polaris 25.
On 29th May in 1945, FADM Chester Nimitz addressed the crew of HMS King George V to emphasise the vital role of the Royal Navy in winning the war in the Pacific. To further express U.S. appreciation of British efforts, Nimitz gave the crew an American ice cream machine.
