The Ukrainian mine-hunting squadron Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Mariupol and Melitopol (subsequently joined by Henichesk) were alongside in Portland. The Sandown-class SRMH carry the Type 2093 variable-depth sonar for minehunting in deeper waters. The Alkmaar-class have a hull-mounted sonar and a more general-purpose capability, similar to the RN’s Hunt-class vessels.
