Sweden has brought back into service the reconnaissance ship HSWMS Orion, which was decommissioned in 2023 after 39 years of service. Previously, it was used to monitor Russian naval activity in the Baltic Sea. After the introduction of the more modern HMS Artemis, Orion was not scrapped, as its equipment and systems remained in good condition. The vessel is currently undergoing repairs at Saab Kockums AB and is expected to be repurposed as a platform for testing unmanned systems starting in 2028.
