USS Birmingham (CL-62) at the Pearl Harbour Navy Yard on December 6, 1943. The photo shows damage to the port side of the vessel, which occurred during the Battle of Kolombangara in July 1943, when the cruiser USS St. Louis was torpedoed by a Japanese destroyer. Birmingham was part of the task force that assisted the damaged St. Louis.
