The collision involving the USS Frank E. Evans (DD-754) on June 3, 1969. The destroyer USS Everett F. Larson (DD-830) is shown assisting the damaged ship. The stern section of the USS Frank E. Evans, which was cut in two during a collision with the Australian aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne, is tied up alongside the Larson. The incident occurred in the South China Sea during a SEATO training exercise, resulting in the loss of 74 American sailors.

Type 42 destroyer HMS Nottingham being transported back to the UK on the deck of the heavy-lift ship MV Swan in December 2002. The vessel was welded to the deck of the Dutch heavy-lift ship MV Swan for its journey halfway around the world.

Sweden has brought back into service the reconnaissance ship HSWMS Orion, which was decommissioned in 2023 after 39 years of service. Previously, it was used to monitor Russian naval activity in the Baltic Sea. After the introduction of the more modern HMS Artemis, Orion was not scrapped, as its equipment and systems remained in good condition. The vessel is currently undergoing repairs at Saab Kockums AB and is expected to be repurposed as a platform for testing unmanned systems starting in 2028.
