HMS Sheffield (D80), a Type 42 destroyer, shown on fire shortly after being struck by an Argentine Exocet missile on May 4, 1982. The ship alongside is HMS Arrow (F173), a Type 21 frigate, which moved in close to spray water from fire hoses on the burning Sheffield. The missile hit the ship in the galley area, destroying the fire main and preventing effective firefighting. HMS Sheffield was abandoned and sank six days later on May 10, 1982, resulting in the loss of 20 sailors.

The decommissioned frigate ex-USS Ingraham (FFG 61) was sunk during a coordinated U.S. Navy sinking exercise (SINKEX) in August 2021. The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate was the last built of her class.
